Well Done Tamilnadu

The mandate registered in Tamilnadu 2009 Parliament elections is flawless and decisive. It is one of the very rarest and healthy verdicts in last 20 years in Tamilnadu electoral space which I have been keenly watching. The election wave, anti – incumbency factor and electoral arithmetic (which played pivotal role in TN since 1998) have been pushed to cold storage in this election.

The development schemes (Infrastructure, creation of jobs, industrial development etc) implemented by DMK government have been much appreciated in this election and populist measures (Farmers Loan waiving, free schemes, etc) carried out by DMK also worked in favor. We can’t ignore the accreditation, the DMK and its leader Mr.Karunanidhi got for its ideological moves (Enabling all caste people to become temple priests, Announcement of Pongal as Tamil New year, etc). Overall, the ruling DMK has got its overwhelming endorsement for its good governance in the last three years in TN.

The most heartening outcome in this election is the defeat of Congress bigwigs like Mani Shankar, Thangabalu, EVKS Elangovan and the narrow escape for Chidambaram for their irresponsible and reckless behavior in the Eelam issue. It alarmed the red signal for Tamilnadu Congress and taught them the lesson that they cant just carried away by showing their blind eye when it comes to issues related to Tamil cause. Congress must understand the significance of local sensitiveness and should remember that they are accountable for it.

More accolades for Tamilnadu electorates for dumping the PMK in all constituencies for their betrayal and unfaithfulness. Mr.Ramadass should realize that the people are not so insane to acknowledge his opportunistic political games in every other election. After tasting the first defeat in 11 years, it is the high time for the PMK to introspect its political miscalculations for its own survival.

The voters in Viruthunagar made Mr.Vaiko to bite the dust and ousted his party from the Tamilnadu political arena. After taking the asylum in Poes garden, no one is ready to entrust his vociferous Eelam support. By compromising his principles in unruly ways, Mr.Vaikos reputation got pulverized in very short time.

Even after fencing the Eelam Sword in her whirlwind election campaign, Ms.Jayalalitha miserably failed to reap the benefits. You cannot simply win the election by blaming and blabbering about the ruling party in the campaign, after prolonged hibernation in the Kodanadu estate. Ms.Jayalalitha should understand that in democracy she has the job to do even if she is not in power.

The most significant achievement of the election is the recognition of Mr.Thirumavalavan and his party. I have lot of respect on Mr.Thirumavalavan for his unrelenting and unassailable stand when it comes to principles. DMK must express its gratitude to VCK and its cadres without whom the triumph in northern districts is the distant possibility.

The hero of this election is Mr.Karunanidhi and his political sagaciousness. Mr. Karunanidhi has balanced the ideology, development and populist schemes in correct proportion and conquered the elections. Young and prospering leaders must learn from his vast political experience and follow his recipe for success. In my opinion Mr.Karunanidhi is playing the very savvy and prudent politics in the last 5 years and drafting huge electoral victories. He understood the common man and he lent his deaf ears towards the highly educated idiots who are bluffing in the national televisions about him and DMK.

The common man is the penultimate judge to vouch for development and punish for being unaccountable towards Eelam issue. This election is the eye opener for all politicians across Tamilnadu. Being the staunch supporter of DMK, I am happier now than I was in 1996 and 2004 when DMK+ swept the elections and once again my heartily congratulations to Tamilnadu Electorates.

I whole heartedly agree with this statement "Mr. Karunanidhi has balanced the ideology, development and populist schemes in correct proportion and conquered the elections."

I am happy Vaiko was defeated. People of TN know full well that while sympathies for Tamils in Lanka needs to be present, it should not be to the extreme. Jayalathaa's politcal games came a cropper and the fact that DMDK played spoiler is quite evident.

I am happy MK won.

As usual Tharani I have to disagree with you atleast somewhere and here it is - "We can’t ignore the accreditation, the DMK and its leader Mr.Karunanidhi got for its ideological moves (Enabling all caste people to become temple priests, Announcement of Pongal as Tamil New year, etc)." This is bullshit. Govts have no business interfering into these activities and MK is the CM of the Tamils in Tamil Nadu and not the CM of the Tamils under the DK umbrella. He is my CM as much as he is yours and he should stop pandering to polarized sections of society. This is 2009 not 1960.

Hello Tharani,
I agree on some of your points on MK. He is a good politician and strategist and he knows how to win elections and that’s why he is kingmaker for last 5 years. But I am NOT sure his freebies are good for the country and may have negative impact in the long run. I feel his tactics is to keep everyone as common man (if not beggar) and build his political empire.
I see that you bashed congress quite a bit on ealam issue, but I feel biased because you ignored to bash DMK. To me they had the equal responsibility and power to protect innocent people in Ealam.
I am glad that people elected Congress to rule in central and also for defeating DK’s (PMK, MDMK, DMDK etc), SP’s (SP, BSP, lollu prasad etcc..) and CPI’s (A-Z). On the other hand I am also sad that people voted for DMK.
JJ rarely speaks truth and this time she is right. Money played a big role in this election and in my village each voter was paid between Rs.100 and 1000 by DMK. Even thought my family rejected the offer, DMK’ians kept the money at doorstep and left. (Of course my parents didn’t vote for them). When we called my in-law family in Kovilpatti, we got even shocking news that to defeat v(s)aiko they paid out up to Rs10,000 per vote.

Even though I am not completely satisfied with the outcome I think I feel good at the end.

I was expecting 50 -50 for both parties, surprised to see the poll results. I think something went wrong. Money played a major role as usual in this election also and I heared that distribution of Money in my village and also in Madurai. Though south indian states are economically strong compare to some of the North indian states, it is shame that our people of accepting money to franchise their vote. This has been discussed in leading TV channel and they were pointing about TN and AP.

and other factors are PMK kicked out (good verdict) and 10% of Vote pulled by Vijayakanth Party can be a reason for DMK's victory.

TN people rejected few congress sitting MPs, lets assume its a lesson to the congress central government towards neligence of Ellam issue, but why didnt they realize that DMK is also part of central government holding key portfolios?. Or is it the other way like DMK put their best effort(Telegram and fasting), but there was no support from central government. If its the case, we agree that DMK victory is out of their great and good work being carried out in TN by MK and his team.

Lets keep going this thread. I am writing this mail just like that and its nothing to do with Tharani's blog.

I felt very bad when I read the news that MK is going to Delhi.

MK did not go to Delhi for Ellam issue or he did not even phone, but now he goes to Delhi to get good portfolios.

You got to love how Sun TV covered the news of prabakaran's death. They almost read it (in 30 seconds) like 4 ordinary people died in a road accident. BBC covered it for 10 minutes in a 30 minutes news. Thats why I hate this empire. Its just a drama stage for them and we are watching as deaf and blind.

P.S: I meant to say, the news would have covered his life and his organization, and his extraordinary activities.. I will let you decide those extraordinary things are good or bad.

Literates do not vote and Illiterates do not know whom to vote. Being this as a sustained situation in TN for several decades, whom do you think other than MK & JJ can be triumphant over the poll?

In the past years, the development done by MK in TN is making their children & grand children become MPs (MKA, rogue from Madurai is an excellent example) and heading towards cabinet ministries. Had this bloody fucker been to Delhi for any of the serious issues like Cauvery, Ealem, power shortage, etc?

Perhaps, one day MK will nominate Dayalu ammal & Rajathi ammal for RS and ask for ministry portfolio too.

This post clearly shows your bias as agreed by yourself towards end of the article.

I am not against people showing their bias and praising their leader as much as they want.

But, the below statement clearly shows how much knowledge you have about economy or development.

>>The development schemes >>(Infrastructure, creation of >>jobs, industrial development >>etc) implemented by DMK >>government have been much >>appreciated in this election and >>populist measures (Farmers Loan >>waiving, free schemes, etc) >>carried out by DMK also worked >>in favor.

The below shows how extreme a person can go if he has bias. Cong leaders are honest about their opinion about Eelam issue not like MK.

>>The most heartening outcome in >>this election is the defeat of >>Congress bigwigs like Mani >>Shankar, Thangabalu, EVKS >>Elangovan and the narrow escape >>for Chidambaram for their >>irresponsible and reckless >>behavior in the Eelam issue.

The point is very simple, DMK won using money. Everybody knows this.
